Hello Lovely!
Happy Sunday!
Recently, I have been going on really long walks in the rain. There is something so magical about having the forest all to one's Self...just the dogs and I. Day in and out the rain continues and with some level of delight, the three of us head out in to the stillness. John Muir wrote, into the forest I go to lose my mind and find my soul... I absolutely can say this is what I experience. I find a lot of stillness while in the forest. One way I achieve this is I take photographs of soaked leaves, flowers, fungi and rocks. The colours are deep, rich and bright. The stillness I feel when looking closely at these small delights has become my version of meditating. My brain is flossed and I find my zen, my flow, my peace. I feel the same way when I paint.
How do you create moments of stillness in your day?
Bringing in these micromoments of focus fosters our capacity to find our breath, our calm, and our power. If we are pulled in so many directions, diluted in attention and energy, we are not moving forward in our moment, our day, our year, our life, from a place of power; from a place of inner knowing and delight.
We need to hear our souls. How else are we going to make Big moves, know Big Love, Big Joy, Big Dedication? How else will we create a bucket list? How else will we curate our delights? Toni Morisson wrote, "your life is already artful, waiting, just waiting for you to make it art...".
I think one hiccup people experience is they read the word 'art' and they back the heck up. Time and again I hear people say, "...but I am not an artist...I am not arty".... Art- creating is a verb. It is not limited to a little group of people who spend time in studios making things for the commercial market.
Making art/being creative is about being in a mental place where you are open to experiencing something new. Where you allow yourself the gift of seeing or hearing or feeling something new. It is not, in my view, about painting, sketching, dancing, or composing a great symphony. It is about stimulating our senses such that our soul speaks to us. From that place we can create a life where we live in dreams awake.
We are here to make noise.
We are here to share ideas.
We are here to live the life we feel inside of us. We birth it, we generate it, we create it.
To quote Notorious B.I.G., "stay far from timid; only make moves when your heart's in it, and live the phrase, 'the sky's the limit'".
Dream so loudly that the Universe has to listen. Create with such freedom that you know your soul's delight.
Until next week, I am sending you so much love.
xx Jamila
